Semi di SAD: discovering international cooperation at Filzi High School in Rovereto
Apr 17 2025On Monday, April 14th, as part of the "Seeds of SAD" project, a meeting was held at the Filzi high school in Rovereto regarding the role of international cooperation in the fight against poverty and the right to education. The project, launched in 2024, aims to foster the development of educating communities in combating new forms of poverty and promoting social cohesion and generative welfare.
The meeting was led by Elena, GTV Program Officer (Italy), and Serena, a volunteer, who engaged around sixty students through an interactive presentation. Specifically, after a brief introduction to development cooperation and a presentation of GTV and its activities, particularly the Child Sponsorship program, with a focus on the values it promotes: mutual aid, solidarity, sense of responsibility, sense of belonging, and dialogue between peoples. The meeting then delved into the topics of poverty and the right to education. Both of these represent some of the main areas of focus for development cooperation projects, and GTV projects are a clear example of this.
"What is poverty?" This was the question posed to the participating students who, through a brainstorming activity, had the opportunity to think concretely about the topic based on their own experiences and knowledge. Then, after this more dynamic part, the theoretical tools used in the study and calculation of poverty at a global level were presented; these included the poverty line, GINI coefficient, and HDI.
Finally, the presentation was dedicated to the theme of the right to education, which has always been very important to GTV. Therefore, through the discovery of GTV's most recent projects focusing on this theme – particularly the "POEMA", "ISABEL", and "HAPPINESS SCHOOL" projects - the students of the Filzi high school had the opportunity to explore the topic in its multidimensionality.
However, the focal role that the Chid Sponsorship Program program plays in guaranteeing the right to education should not be forgotten. In fact, through the annual contribution of the project's supporters, children are directly and indirectly supported in their educational paths, and this generally helps to combat school dropout among the most economically disadvantaged students in rural Vietnam.
