IRIS – Working Together for School Hygiene
Apr 27 2026At the beginning of 2026, the project IRIS – Together for School Hygiene was launched, involving 10 public schools and over 3,000 students, with the aim of concretely improving hygiene conditions and the overall quality of school life.
Materials distributed
An important milestone has already been achieved: on March 22–23, GTV volunteers delivered 21 water heaters to the target schools. The distribution included:
-Coc Re (primary: 3, secondary: 5)
-Thu Ta (primary: 3, secondary: 2)
-Ban Diu (primary: 6, secondary: 2)
These installations allow for safer and more dignified use of showers, significantly improving students’ daily hygiene conditions.
Teacher training
Between March 24 and April 4, 2026, GTV carried out an intensive training program involving 156 teachers from 10 schools across 5 communes (Trung Thinh, Thu Ta, Coc Re, Ban Diu, and Che La). During the workshops, teachers explored key topics such as:
-the importance of clean water and safe sanitation
-disease prevention
-personal hygiene practices, including menstrual hygiene management
-effective communication to raise awareness among students
The sessions were highly participatory, including group discussions, practical exercises, and the use of standardized materials developed by organizations such as UNICEF and relevant Vietnamese ministries.
Results
The results are very encouraging:
- 100% of schools developed a communication plan for the 2026–2027 school year
-all teachers achieved a full understanding of practical content
-between 88% and 100% of participants reported being “very satisfied” with the training
Trained teachers will become key actors in promoting hygiene practices in schools, leading educational activities throughout the school year.
