Training sessions on Dengue fever prevention have started!

On June 15th , informational sessions on dengue fever prevention began, as part of the project “Combating Dengue Fever on Atauro Island in East Timor”.
The sessions are intended for the local population and will be held in the areas of of the villages of Makili and Vila Maumeta and will be organized and led by the project manager and the young volunteers who were previously trained in Dengue prevention and who carried out the mapping of Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding sites in Makili.
During the sessions, the local population will be specifically trained on:
- How to prevent the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes (for example, how to address critical mosquito breeding sites such as water containers, and possible surveillance methods)
- How to prevent epidemics (for example, how to avoid further disease transmission when infected, and how to care for infected family members)
- Prevention methods (for example, the use of tools such as repellents and mosquito nets, how to make homemade repellents, and the use of larvicides)
On June 15th , the first training sessions were held in the neighborhoods of Aldeia Fatulela and Macelihun, with more than 200 participants. On June 16th, 100 people attended sessions in Aldeia Mau Laco and Vila Maumeta. The sessions will continue next week, also involving an elementary school and a local women’s cooperative.
