Construction completed at Nam Dan kindergarten: the building is now safe!
Dec 09 2025In the summer of 2024, the Nam Dan kindergarten, attended by 35 children aged 3 to 5, was hit by a severe landslide following heavy weather events and Typhoon YAGI.
The landslide affected the rear of the building, reaching as far as the windows.
The school was therefore in a critical situation regarding the stability of the structure and the safety of the students, teachers, and kitchen staff.
Thanks to the project “Response to the Climate Emergency and Typhoon YAGI in Xin Man District”, GTV was able to construct a retaining wall to secure the school and prevent future landslides. Work began in February 202: the rear soil was excavated to prevent future slippages, and the mountainous terrain was subsequently reinforced with a concrete retaining wall and a drainage ditch.
The work was carried out by a local construction company, selected by GTV after comparing several quotes, using materials purchased directly in Ha Giang province. The safety measures were completed in early May 2025.
Another action of the project involves the reconstruction of 40 homes for poor families who either lost their houses or whose homes were rendered unstable and unsafe by last year’s extreme weather events.
In May, building materials were distributed to the beneficiary families and in July 2025, the local project manager will conduct an on-site mission to monitor the project’s progress.
