Competing for a healthy diet: final events against malnutrition
Dec 09 2025In August 2025, the final events of the project “Food Security for Families and Preschools in Ban Ngo and Nam Dan” were held at the target preschools.
Five awareness-raising events were organized, involving a total of 127 participants: 22 teachers, 21 cooks, 64 parents, 15 children, and 5 local authority representatives.
Each preschool hosted an event lasting approximately four hours.During these events, participants who had attended healthy eating courses in previous months took part in an actual cooking competition!
Five teams, each made up of 5–6 members, competed in preparing balanced and nutritious family meals, working with a limited budget of 300,000 VND (about 12 euros) to purchase ingredients and create complete menus suitable for all age groups.
The dishes, prepared with local products, were evaluated by a panel of judges composed of representatives from the education, health, and community sectors. The evaluation criteria included nutritional variety, meal balance, hygiene, presentation, and teamwork. At the end of the competition, prizes were awarded, consisting of healthy foods such as milk and soy-based drinks. All participants also received an apron, symbolizing their commitment to promoting healthier cooking.
The initiative generated great enthusiasm: teams were able to put into practice the knowledge gained during the training courses, and many participants reported learning how to better balance meals, moving away from the habit of cooking limited or repetitive dishes.
With this series of awareness-raising events, the project combating malnutrition concludes, marking a significant and wide-reaching intervention for the communities of Ban Ngo and Nam Dan.
