Title: “Prevention of women and children trafficking in the provinces of Bac Ninh and Hung Yen (Vietnam) through local capacity building and information campaigns on the territory”

Sector: Gender

Location: Province of Bac Ninh and Hung Yen

Local counterpart: National Women Union of Vietnam

Period of implementation: 2008-2009

Project Partners: Province of Trento

Beneficiaries: 70 individuals belonging to organizations and government offices of all levels; 350 employees responsible for organizing information campaigns and the population of the 10 municipalities involved (approximately 2,500 persons), 50 women victims and former beneficiaries of vocational training and rehabilitation

Background: the problem of women and children trafficking is still serious in Vietnam; in the Sun Nung provinces of Bac Ninh and Yen, from 1995 to 2007, there have been over 700 cases of missing women who have been presumably trafficked. The lack of job opportunities is often the root cause of the abduction, and 70% of unemployed individuals in Bac Ninh are women.

Description: the project aims at raising awareness on large-scale population of two provinces. The goal is reaching with information activities at least 2,500 people. This will form a group of 350 young people belonging to government agencies and NGOs in the area, which will, in turn, organize and implement all information activities, including public meetings and distributing leaflets, but also a play on a theatrical theme. Fifty former victims of trafficking will then be inserted in a social and professional program and they will be included in professional training workshops in the area. Finally, GTV will organize routine workshops in Hanoi to which all stakeholders will be able to participate in various ways, thus involving different actors in anti-trafficking activities across the country, with the aim of exchanging experiences and ways of working and, possibly, creating networks of collaboration.
